Edinburgh Airport Trial Route - Complaints.

Due to public comment and demand we have created an easy to use on-line complaint form for residents in the area to use to submit a specific aircraft complaint to Edinburgh Airport. The information in the form will be automatically transmitted to Edinburgh Airport on your behalf, Edinburgh Airport should then log the complaint and respond directly to you.

You can access this form here:- www.broxburncc.org.uk/airport-form.htm

Edinburgh Airport Trial Route.

If you've been wondering why there's been an increase in aircraft activity and noise in the Broxburn area recently it's due to a new westerly take off route being trialled at Edinburgh airport for a period of 6 months. You can read more about this trial route on a web site created by the airport here >>> http://sid.edinburghairport.com

If you have specific noise complaints or believe that an aircraft isn’t following the correct procedure then Edinburgh airport operates a dedicated noise enquiry line (open 24/7) which can be called on 0800 731 3397. All callers will be asked to leave their name and contact information, along with details of the date and time of any disturbance. All calls are recorded and complaints investigated. Callers will be provided with either an answer to their enquiry or will be told how long they can expect to wait for a full response. Should you experience more than one event of concern you should call this number each time to register a complaint.

On making a complaint if you do not get a timely response or you feel the response does not resolve your specific complaint then you can contact one of your local councillors, area MP or MSP and ask them to look into the matter further on your behalf.

You also may like to visit an online petition at www.change.org to halt the trial which can be accessed here:- https://www.change.org/p/edinburgh-airport-stop-the-trial-flight-path-over-uphall-and-broxburn

The BUSY Project's Awards Evening.

The BUSY project, a group committed to working with the young people in the Broxburn and Uphall area, recently held a special awards evening. Although it was a bitterly cold January night there was certainly a very warm welcome extended to everyone attending, with plenty of refreshments and nibbles available too.

A short, atmospheric programme of original music from Peter and his band from the Acoustic Café was followed by Ben, who received a great ovation for his performance on his (recently learned) acoustic guitar. A dance duo, Caitlin and Abby, closed the live presentation with a routine they learned through the project.

Videos made by youth members under the guidance of dedicated volunteers were then screened; these videos had been made to promote the venture by showing some of its projects in action. This was followed by the presentation of the project’s ‘Oscars’ awards, then Peter finally led those present in a musical conclusion.

Broxburn Community Council is grateful for the opportunity to have been represented for this uplifting experience.

The project’s principal initial funding has ceased and fund-raising is needed to sustain the project. The hope is to sign up 240 people prepared to pledge £10 a month.

New Public Art Project.

Following a long consultation period involving local schools and community groups in Broxburn and Uphall, the Broxburn and Uphall Town Management Group have approved a new and exciting public art project to move to its final stage.

Artist Michael Johnson presented a scale model of his proposal at a meeting last week, where it was met with enthusiastic approval by all present.

The model presented depicts the history of the area as told by the local people and from extensive research into the area. This not only includes its history but its aspirations for the future, as well as its geology and ecology. From the base that will be made using compressed shale and replica mining equipment and tools, to the flora that survives in this almost unique landscape, through to inscribed quotations from some of our local children.

The final work will be installed, (subject to planning permissions), on the roadside verge at the edge of the Cemetery, just opposite the Skate-park. If everything goes to plan it is expected to be completed and installed by September 2011.

We are sure that you will agree this is indeed a wonderful design and look forward to seeing it in place. Further news and updates about the completion date will be announced on these pages as soon as they become available.
